The Ulefone Armor Rugged Mobile Phone is an android toughphone that has become my favourite piece of gear for hiking. I couldn’t think of doing a long distance walk without this type phone, it will survive being dropped and most importantly it’s waterproof. This type of phone can be heavy for lightweight backpacking but that’s because of its huge battery. Mine will last at least a week in full use and often 2 weeks if used carefully. It makes it perfect for long walks without access to power. This also means you don’t necessarily need to carry an additional power pack. Read my full review of the phone here.

The Ulefone Armor Rugged Mobile Phone is a tough android smartphone that rapidly become my favourite piece of gear for hiking. The 3W is no longer available but I’ve linked to a newer model.

It’s great to have only one thing for communication, navigation and photography instead of carrying numerous pieces of kit.

The phone was perfect for my winter Lejog and Dover to Cape Wrath walks, holding all the OS maps for the whole of the UK. It’s great being able to switch the phone on and the GPS straight away places me on the map. Read my post on how this all works here and full review of the Ulefone Armor phone here.
